The World Premiere of a brand new adaptation of one of the greatest works of English fiction, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre.

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will”

A Gothic masterpiece of tempestuous passions and dark secrets, Jane Eyre tells the thrilling story of an orphan girl and her journey from a childhood of loneliness and cruelty to a life at Thornfield Hall and an unlikely relationship with the mysterious Mr Rochester. Falling in love, she gradually uncovers a hidden past to the gloomy, forbidding Thornfield Hall, a terrible secret that forces her to make a heart-wrenching choice.

Captivating, brooding and intensely powerful, Jane Eyre is a moving and unforgettable portrayal of one woman’s quest for equality and freedom, and lives as one of the great triumphs of storytelling. Performed by a cast of five in an exciting ensemble performance style, using original live music, stylish theatricality and engaging story-telling Nick Lane has created a fresh, accessible theatrical experience of a timeless classic.

Written by Charlotte Brontë, adapted and directed for the Stage by Nick Lane. Performed by Blackeyed Theatre.

Luton Library Theatre

Luton Library Theatre opened in 1962 as a lecture theatre before gradually changing to a traditional entertainment venue with 256 seats and two side aisles.

The Theatre began to build up a programme of amateur and professional drama, film, music of all types and children's events. In fact a pretty long list of events that covers almost every taste!

All of this continued through the sixties, seventies and eighties. During the nineties the seating was changed to a more modern style and colour with a centre isle with a slight rake. This meant the amount of seating had to be reduced to the current capacity of 238.

In the late nineties and early noughties, there were more changes both fabric and technical makeup of the Theatre. This brings us up to 2009, when the Library itself closed for a major refurbishment. Some improvements were made to the front of house and bar areas of the theatre, plus the introduction of a new cafe.
