Famed for their upbeat, energetic live shows, British jazz-funk stalwarts, and hugely influential jazz/pop cross over stars, the James Taylor Quartet make their debut in Luton.

Their relentlessly entertaining tunes inspired by boogaloo funk of the sixties and the rare-groove style funk of the seventies are guaranteed to tear the roof off!

Lead by Hammond organ-guru, James Taylor, JTQ stands with one foot planted in 2019, and other, just as firmly, somewhere south of the 1970s.

For more than 25 years, The James Taylor Quartet have set the standard for the coolest sounds in funky acid jazz. On dozens of mighty albums and at their legendary gigs at home and around the world, they’ve quietly become a byword for distinguished British creativity. In addition to his work with JTQ – James has collaborated with the likes of U2, The Wonderstuff, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues, as well as with Tom Jones on the multi-platinum album Reload.

JTQ are perhaps best-known and best-loved for their unrivaled live performances. With James’s Hammond leading the way, JTQ jam out with funky rhythms and kitschy-cool melodies - their concerts include reworkings of classics such as Green Onions and Time Is Tight, as well as JTQ’s debut single Blow Up, JTQ Theme and, of course, the inimitable, Starsky and Hutch.

Luton Library Theatre

Luton Library Theatre opened in 1962 as a lecture theatre before gradually changing to a traditional entertainment venue with 256 seats and two side aisles.

The Theatre began to build up a programme of amateur and professional drama, film, music of all types and children's events. In fact a pretty long list of events that covers almost every taste!

All of this continued through the sixties, seventies and eighties. During the nineties the seating was changed to a more modern style and colour with a centre isle with a slight rake. This meant the amount of seating had to be reduced to the current capacity of 238.

In the late nineties and early noughties, there were more changes both fabric and technical makeup of the Theatre. This brings us up to 2009, when the Library itself closed for a major refurbishment. Some improvements were made to the front of house and bar areas of the theatre, plus the introduction of a new cafe.
