Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year to mark 70 years on the throne. To mark the occasion, a special 4 day bank holiday is taking place between Thursday 2 and Sunday 5 June 2022.


To accommodate this, the late Spring Bank Holiday has moved from Monday to this weekend. Activities are planned across the weekend, including the Platinum Jubilee Beacon Ceremony.


A number of fun activities will be taking place throughout town on Thursday 2 June, including live music and DJs outside the town hall, art workshops and other activities across the town - keep checking back for updates.


Official Ceremony timings and activity:

2pm - Town Criers are being invited to undertake the Proclamation, announcing the lighting of the beacons later that evening


9.35pm - Pipe bands will begin playing “Diu Regnare” in tribute to Her Majesty The Queen


9.40pm - Bugle players will begin to special tribute to Her Majesty the Queen by playing a bespoke bugle call entitled ‘Majesty’


9.45pm - A Song for the Commonwealth To coincide with the lighting of the Beacons, Luton Choral Society will begin to sing ’Song for the Commonwealth,’ in celebration of this special moment in The Queen’s life.
